Our volunteers

We have a team of around 50 regular volunteers, plus more offering temporary and project-based support.

What volunteers do

Volunteers work on all sorts of things across SDCAS, from sorting and handing out groceries to giving advice on benefits and running creative activities. Meet some of our valued team.

Many years ago, Ali joined SDCAS as a client and now volunteers his time to work on reception at our day centres. With new clients arriving all the time, Ali’s welcoming manner and impressive language skills are invaluable – he speaks English, Arabic and Farsi as well as some Dari and Kurdish.

Rick coordinated our emergency food delivery service in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, Rick says, ‘I’ve been trying to streamline everything so that people get what they need and want… we’ve been very successful, I’d say, in reorganising and helping people in the best way we can.’
